Release Political Prisoners!

Take Action! Two Brothers, Muhammad and Annas Alian, Held Incommunicado by Regime in Syria since Summer 2011 – Demand Their Release!

About Muhammad and Annas Alian:
Two brothers from Daraya — Muhammad Alian, age 18, and Annas Alian, age 25 and a father of a little girl — have been detained by Air Force Security since the summer of 2011.

In late May, 2011, Annas agreed to participate in “dialogue” with a regime representative sent to Daraya; he was imprisoned anyway and has been a political prisoner since 11 June 2011. Teen-age Muhammad has been a political prisoner since 9 August 2011.

Both are arbitrarily detained, without warrant or charge, by Air Force Security, which is the same branch of this brutal regime’s forces that killed Ghiyath Matar and others under torture.

Muhammad and Annas, along with all political prisoners in Syria, must be immediately and unconditionally released! Take action to demand that these brothers be set free!

TAKE ACTION

1. Join Muhammad’s support page on Facebook.

2. Write for Muhammad and Annas Alian:
Please use the below sample letter to urgently demand the immediate and unconditional release of brothers Muhammad and Annas Alian. The mail should be addressed to the Syrian Embassy in Washington DC, with copies to international foreign ministries worldwide as well as media outlets. Addresses appear below the sample letter.

SAMPLE LETTER:

To the relevant authorities:

I am writing to urgently demand the IMMEDIATE and UNCONDITIONAL release of brothers Muhammad and Annas Alian from arbitrary detention in Syria’s security system.

Annas Alian has been illegally detained since 11 June 2011, while teen-age Muhammad has been illegally detained since 9 August 2011 by Air Force Security, in violation of all relevant national and international laws. Arbitrary detention is illegal according to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Article 7. Syria signed this Covenant on 21 April, 1969.

We remind the Syrian regime that torture is illegal in Syria, both under international law as well as according to Article 28 (3) of the Syrian Constitution. The Penal Code of Syria stipulates punishment for anyone inflicting torture on a person. Syria’s security system is thus fully responsible for the safety, health and physical and psychological well-being of Muhammad and Annas Alian.

I hold Bashar Assad and the Syrian regime exclusively responsible for the safe return of brothers Muhammad and Annas Alian, and for all prisoners of conscience and political prisoners currently held in Syria’s detention and prison system. All such detainees should be released immediately and without condition.

Sincerely,
[Your Name]
